Edmonds, WA December 3, 2007 – The majority of today’s low-income parents work exceptionally hard, but are regrettably still struggling to keep up with their bills. During the holiday season, this reality becomes painfully clear when parents are not able to buy their children gifts, let alone decorate. Fortunately, there is a local company and charity foundation that want to make this time of year a little brighter for these families. Christmas House is a local non-profit in Everett that provides toys and essentials to low income families in Snohomish County during the holiday season. Established in 1981, Christmas House helps over 2,500 families each year. In 2006, a total of 7,238 children, infants and teens received clothing, blankets, toys, and personal items during the holiday season. This year, Christmas House will be operating out of The Boys and Girls Club of Snohomish County in North Everett. When the local company, Universol Aromas Soy Candle Company, learned of the generosity of Christmas House, they had to get involved. “When we heard that Christmas House helps over 2,000 families every holiday season, we knew this would be the perfect charity to team up with,” says Megan Savage, owner of Universol Aromas. “We are so excited for the opportunity to give back to the parents of these families, since we know that they probably don’t receive many gifts during the holiday season either. That is why we are donating over $1,300 of soy candles to Christmas House, so hopefully the parents will be able to pick up a gift for themselves as well.” Universol Aromas Soy Candle Co. is an e-commerce company located in Edmonds. Their environmentally-friendly soy candles are also featured in retailers across the country. Owners, Megan & Chris Savage, started the company with the intention of creating a quality, non-toxic candle that smells wonderful, and supports the U.S. economy. “I am so proud of the products that we make. All of our ingredients, including our containers, come from American companies, and, our soy candles are a much healthier choice for one’s home environment and the global environment,” says Megan.
These two organizations are great examples of the generosity of Americans. “These candles from Universol Aromas are something that will lift the spirits of the adults that come in, expecting to get a few gifts for their children, and realize that they too can choose a gift that will brighten their day,” says Pam Sorenson, Director of Christmas House. Giving has its own special rewards. It is the pathway to finding and increasing our feelings of connectedness and worth. And in the end, it helps us put a lot of things into perspective. read more digg story
