Peter, a former NASA Mars Rover mechanical engineer, started his own business in June 2004 building custom modernized vintage Ford Mustangs, turning a lifelong passion into a new career. Christa, after leaving her job as a computer programmer for Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment to be a “castaway” on Survivor Pearl Islands, decided to start her own website design company as well as start a business creating unique designer apparel for women. Peter and Christa’s ultimate goal was to be stay-at-home parents while still doing what they love to do. The idea for HomeGrownMarket.com came around mid 2005 when Christa found it difficult to reach customers as a small independent designer.
HomeGrownMarket.com was created to overcome this difficulty by bringing many small businesses and individuals together with a “strength in numbers” approach while supporting the American economy, featuring only products hand made in the U.S.A. Christa built and designed the website for over a year, while Peter worked on developing the logistics of how the site would operate.
